The TGA recently issued a safety alert (Oct 2011) regarding two types of OCPs taken by nearly 200,000 Australian women, namely Yaz, and Yasmin. These two OCPs both contain the synthetic hormone drospirenone and may carry a two to threefold increased risk of potentially dangerous blood clots.
