A strong, healthy, viable immune system is the very best prevention to keep all winter viruses at bay. A few very simple strategies can go a long way in boosting a vulnerable immune system or enhancing a reasonably effective one.

A recent study conducted by the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has found that 43% of Australians do not receive enough iodine, while 70% of women of child-bearing age and about 10% of children between the ages of two and three are iodine deficient.
Our skin is the largest organ of the body, covering a mind-boggling 20 square feet or so. What we place next to this crucial organ is therefore very significant. Equally important to consider is the impact on the environment of the textiles we choose to place next to our skin.
Hereʼs an inspiring recipe to help vary your breakfast grains (read wheat!) and obtain a nutritious, high fibre, low-glycaemic, delicious start to the day.
Many of my clients include babies and young children, consulting me for a range of health concerns, including chronic ear infections, skin rashes and food reactions, constant colds and sore throats, as well as constipation and diarrhoea. The majority of these small patients are prescribed liquid herbal medicine as only children aged 9 or 10 can swallow tablets and capsules whole. (Powdered pro-biotics are also often prescibed… a healthy gut means a strong immune system.)
Just like I have always said, exercising in the morning is excellent time management. (What does 45 minutes less sleep matter when you can start the day on an endorphin-rich high?!) We know that morning exercise significantly raises the metabolic rate for the day, it has now been proven to in fact be easier in the early hours.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) literally means a condition associated with many cysts in the ovary or ovaries. It is accompanied by a tendency to produce too much androgen (male hormones) and to ovulate erratically. Other symptoms of PCOS can include failure to menstruate, and/or to ovulate, excessive facial hair and obesity. Fat deposits accumulate around the upper body resulting in central obesity. It is probably one of the most common menstrual disorders associated with infertility and it is estimated that somewhere between six to twenty percent of women of childbearing age suffer form this disease.
Glucosamine sulfate is a safer and more effective treatment for osteoarthritis than acetaminophen, the drug commonly used for long-term treatment. A research group from the Rheumatology Department, Fundacion, imenez Diaz-capio, Madrid, Spain randomly assigned 318 patients to receive oral glucosamine sulfate 1500 mg once daily, acetaminophen 3 g/day, or placebo for three months. The study patients had moderately severe OA symptoms.

Energy is a very straight forward equation really. Quite simple to make in fact. Food acts as fuel and is transformed to cellular energy through a series of chemical reactions that are dependant on key vitamins and minerals. Cellular energy, otherwise known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is constantly being formed and expended and we must produce 32 units of it in every cell in our body, every minute of the day. It is in the mitochondria, the engine room of each cell, that these crucial energy units are manufactured.
