Saffron and appetite
I have written quite a lot in recent times about the beneficial effects of saffron on depression, anxiety and PMS. But now this little wonder herb, pokes its strands out of its pretty flowery head to reveal more benefits!
New evidence shows saffron supplementation works rapidly to promote healthy eating habits, with the additional bonus of reducing cardiovascular disease.
Eighty four overweight patients with coronary artery disease were randomised to receive either 30 mg of saffron extract, 30 mg of crocin (isolated saffron constituent) or placebo for eight weeks. Results indicated a statistically significant decrease of central adiposity, caloric intake and improved appetite control in the saffron and crocin groups, with stronger effects seen in patients supplementing with the whole saffron extract.
So a positive result for metabolic drivers of chronic cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders.
