Calcium and heart health
Authors of a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have challenged prior research that claimed calcium supplementation may have “the unintended negative consequence of increasing cardiovascular disease risk”.
When examining the association between calcium intake and subclinical cardiovascular disease in diabetics, not only was there no observed adverse effects for calcium on any measure of calcified plaque; women supplemented with the mineral experienced a reduction in all-cause mortality over a 9.4 year average.
