Put a brake on it! Aka de-snack!

Put a brake on it! Aka de-snack!

Yes, I’ve invented a new word …“de-snack”. With more time at home, there is, I sense a little too much snacking, nibbling, grazing going on!
Yes, it is lovely to sit down with your family for morning tea, lunch, or a pre-dinner nibble … but we certainly don’t want to emerge from this pandemic a few kilos heavier. NO!

Morning snacks should be fruit platter, a handful of nuts or a smoothie. Pre‑dinner snack, a rice cake and hummus, a boiled egg with a spreading of avocado, raw veggies and a low fat tzatziki dip.

Certainly we now have the luxury of more time to cook, but rather than a frenzied bake off involving, cakes, biscuits and bread, why not perfect a baked vegetable dish, a hearty soup (see next page for some inspiration!) or an exotic curry?

Or on a non-consumable front, how about learning to a prepare a hand cream, bees-wax scented candles or face mask (see below for rosewater mask). Natural cleaners and polishes, shampoo and toners. We can become at-home eco-friendly mini manufacturers! The possibilities are endless!

I would love to know what projects you have taken on, the most interesting will be published in my next newsletter with full credits to the creator!

Rosy complexions
Rose water is made by distilling rose petals and removing the oil; the scented water can then be used for cooling, soothing, calming and hydrating the skin, and of course the sensual aroma is wonderfully mood enhancing. It is rich in vitamins A, B3, C, D and E, which gives it antiseptic, healing and antibacterial properties.

Rosewater mask
2 teaspoons rosewater
1 tablespoons oatmeal
1 teaspoon natural yoghurt
1 teaspoon honey

Combine ingredients, and mix well. Cleanse face, then smooth mask over the skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water, cleanse pores with a rosewater toner and follow with a rose oil moisturiser.
Highly recommended for a delightfully refreshed complexion!
