Melbournian winter

One month before the arrival of the cooler conditions of a Melbournian winter.
Let’s make the most of May, and consider how we will maintain our exercise and dietary regimes in the colder months ahead. No need to stop that early morning exercise session just because “it’s too cold!” And no need to overdo the carbs for comfort!
Firstly… rug up! If your normal exercise regime is conducted outside, just ensure to wear a warm windcheater and gloves to start. If you’re a gym goer, no excuse not to get out of bed because it’s cold. Once at the gym you will be delightfully warm, and if not … work harder!
Sadly, I often hear the rather lame excuse for weight gain in the cold Melbourne winter, “I can’t eat salad in winter.” Well, no of course not! Pas très bien! Instead fill up on a hearty and comforting soup rich in root vegetables and legumes, but without a slice of sourdough on the side. (See over for a deliciously sustaining soup recipe.) If you feel like a stodgy dessert, no! Have a baked pear or apple or some stewed plums with a dollop of yoghurt.
Let’s emerge from winter in the same shape we entered it!
