A recent study cited in the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease (what a title!!), found that women taking postmenopausal replacement therapy, are prone to Candida infection of the vulva and vagina.
The study involved 149 women with an average age of 62. Vulvovaginal candidiasis was found in 49 per cent of those on HRT and in 1 per cent of those not on HRT. Of those with Candida and on HRT, most had suffered from recurrent or chronic infection before menopause. (J. Low Genit Tract Dis 2011;15.263–267, Fischer G et al)
