Herbs to the rescue for heavy periods
Monthly menstrual visits should never arrive with a code red warning of heavy bleeding. New research involving 102 patients investigated the use of Boswellia and ginger (both two very strong anti-inflammatory herbs) for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding. In addition to non-steroid anti-inflammatory medication, patients were randomly assigned to receive either 300 mg of Boswellia, 300 mg of ginger or placebo three times daily from day one to seven of their menstrual cycle for two consecutive cycles.
Compared with placebo, the duration of menstrual bleeding decreased in both Boswellia and ginger groups with additional improvements in quality of life scores. The potent anti-inflammatory effects of Boswellia and ginger are a potent combination to decrease the unnecessary excessive bleeding for many women of child bearing age.
Also we need to consider the therapeutic lovely herb Tienchi Ginseng which is taken two days prior to the period and the first three days thereafter. Tienchi Ginseng significantly decreases excessive menstrual blood loss. Also most helpful for peri-menopausal women with heavy blood loss prior to menopause.
