Diet and diabetes

The fastest acting and most effective treatment for type II diabetes is a carbohydrate-restricted diet.

In a critical review published in Nutrition, the author observed, “by reducing the carbohydrate in the diet, we have been able to taper patients off as much as 150 units of insulin per day in eight days, with marked improvement in glycaemic control – even normalisation of glycaemic parameters.”

Over half the subjects on the ketogenic diet were able to discontinue their medication, and their HbA1c a blood glucose levels reduced significantly by the end of the 24-week study.

Even more significantly, research has shown that calorie restriction can achieve remission rates in diabetes.

In a group of diabetics, reducing energy intake to approximately 1200–1800 kcal day and increasing physical activity to around 30 minutes per day, achieved higher than 10% remission rates in the prevalence of diabetes.

As usual the equation is simple, eat less, and exercise more!
