Childhood Asthma, Eczema and the plastic bottle
baby_bottles.jpgLinks between asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and eczema and plastic feeding bottles have been suggested in research reported in Clinical and Developmental Immunology (2012; doi 10.1155). The study looked at the link between bottle use and rates of asthma and allergies in more than 10,000 children who were two to seven years of age.
A definitive link between plastic feeding bottles and the incidence of these childhood conditions was reported. And the longer the duration of bottle use, the more likely the children were to have these illnesses, even after factors such as the child’s birth weight, length of breastfeeding and age at which they were first given infant formula were taken into account.
Chemicals in plastic bottles were suggested to be most likely responsible.
