Yes, I know, many of you are addicted to your no-grain breakfasts. Eggs and spinach, salmon and avocado, even bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes. But this is not good long-term, particularly if you are grain free for the rest of the day. Complex carbs are not only important for bowel health providing important fibre, good quality carbs also provide fuel to make our intestinal beneficial bacteria and provide energy at that crucial moment … the beginning of the day.

I urge all you Paleo breakfasters, to put the protein on hold for at least one meal! A good old bowl of porridge made with good quality organic oats, topped with seed mix, baked plums and a little almond or rice milk will do you the world of good. Or how about a homemade muesli soaked overnight to create a Bircher bowl, and sprinkled liberally with a good handful of berries and a dollop of sheep’s milk yoghurt. Come on, leave those eggs and fishes alone in the morning, plenty of time to chomp away ay them later in the day!
